Intel's gonna to take over TI's cable modem business on undisclosed terms, combine the Puma widgetry with its own Atom-based SoCs and turn out set-top boxes, residential gateways, digital TVs, Blu-ray disc players and modems for the cable industry. It's chasing the rising consumer demand for video, voice and data content at home. The deal is expected to close in Q4. The TI unit will become part of Intel's Digital Home unit. TI has supplied Motorola, Arris and Cisco's Scientific Atlanta with cable modem chips.
