VMware Cuts Prices for SMBs

Faced with competing against Microsoft's theoretically free virtualization, VMware Thursday cut the $995 list price of its entry-level vSphere Essentials package in half to $495 until June 15 in an appeal to small businesses.
vSphere Essentials targets sites with less than 20 physical servers and lacks such things VMotion live migration of virtual machines or support.
Users can virtualize three physical servers to consolidate and manage applications in the name of reducing hardware and operating costs.

They get three licenses to ESXi or ESX, Virtual Machine File System (VMFS), four-way Virtual SMP, the vCenter Server for Essentials management tool, vCenter Server Agent, vStorage APIs, Consolidated Backup (VCB)for archiving images and the VMware Update Manager.
It's available for download in English, German, Simplified Chinese and Japanese.
